• Setting Up Multi-Node GT

From DARYL STOUT@CAPCITY to ALL on Mon Aug 30 10:40:00 2004

Does one need more than one computer to set up GT Power to run
multi-node?? I'm a bit confused in the documentation concerning the
    setup.

Hard drive space isn't a problem, and the other node(s) would be set up
with the COM/IP program that I mentioned in a previous message. I have
some LAN files on the BBS already, mainly utilities for creating bulletins,
but wondered if directories were the main deal. I know that a Net Bios emulator, such as DVDOOR, is required...but that may only work for
DESQview. I ran DESQview in the past, but currently run Windows 98, so I
can use the dial-up networking for the Internet, if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you did mention the COM/IP program before. I am not sure
that will work, if it is what I think it is.

Unless you are running GT under OS/2, you can't set it up for telnet.
IIRC, that is what COM/IP is for. The way that Windows does the
virtual modem is not compatable with what GT will be looking for. GT
likes to be in direct contact with the modem, and the Windows virtual
modems do not do enough to "fool" it into thinking it is talking to
a real modem, unless you've figured out a way around that.

OK, I'll have to do some checking with the program, and see. I can try
it out, and if it doesn't work, I can easily uninstall it, and keep the
BBS single line. I set up the COM/IP deal to work with what I already
    had, which was:

COM 1: Ham Radio Terminal Node Controller (for packet door)
COM 2: PCI Modem for BBS (motherboard had only 1 serial connector, but
    2 comports.
COM 3 AND COM 4: Virtual Comports with the COM/IP program. I won't know
about it until I can try the cable high speed internet with a USB modem.

The COM/IP program would take up to 256 ports, but I only went with
    COM 3 and COM 4.

Also, I may need another NetBIOS emulator besides DVDOOR, which runs
with DESQview...and I don't have the resources to get extra comports or
phone lines. Can anyone help with this??

    Daryl
