When I tried it I saw that same DROP message got through so possibly it
just took a while for that to get done. Either people stopped posting
there after that or it worked.. B)

Sounds like it worked. ;)

I think there are either a lot of conferences with no messages being
added at all or ones I used to get were somehow dropped. I can join
any of them again if I wanted of course, but there are a few on the
go here that keep me busy.

It could be you used to get them when they were active and now they are
not. Lots of FIDO echos appear dead, and some are, but others will spring
to life, at least for a while, if someone posts something in them.
