Anyone know how to root an android phone?

    HusTler

Which phone would it be? Different phones need different exploits afaik.

I think I found my answer. The folks at KingoRoot state it can't be rooted. With their software anyway. The phone is an A502DL by TCL.

... I don't have any solution, but I certainly admire the problem.

Doesn't look like they allow the bootloader to be unlocked, which presents a problem.

If you haven't updated it there were a couple of exploits (MediaTek-su being one) that allowed root access. https://www.xda-developers.com/mediatek-su-rootkit-exploit/

Thanks for that. Would root access allow me to share my internet via USB port? That is what I'm trying to do. The phone won't allow to share my internet via USB or create a hotspot.

Root access SHOULD allow you to USB tether. Normally it's up to your provider whether to allow it or not (one more reason I buy my phones outright from the manufacturer rather than subsidize through the cell company).

What version of android are you running? When you go under Wifi & Network - Hotspot and tethering, does USB tethering show up at all, even greyed out?

It has version 8.1 I was able to root my previous phone and had no problem sharing via USB or creating a wifi hotspot. I just upgraded the phone and when I try to share the internet it toggles on but then a popup says I need to call customer service. The method I used to root my last phone does not work on the new one.

That's why I just said "yes". If the question isn't specific, neither is the answer.
