I wrote a bit about a local software rental shop we had in the late '80s / early '90s where I grew up in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. They
    rented
software for the C64, Apple II, Amiga, and PC. The rented movies as well and in time started selling Amigas (I bought my Amiga 1200HD there).

Did anyone else have such a place way back when?

I lived in a small villege but about 2-3 miles away there was a place that rented out videos. Sherwood Videos it was called, had to go up some stairs
to a place above the regular stores. I know they sold games but I think they may have only rented out cartridges since floppies and tapes could be easily copied.
