Yes! I loved playing around with it, but to have a local version, and be able to use the terminal to telnet out, THAT would be something.

Separate topic, I had a little success using dosbox with a version of telix imported from a 3.5 floppy and a usb floppy drive... but other than having an original early 90s pc with modem and a real landline, seems like dosbox with a legacy terminal program and something like magicjack connected to a usmodem would be very nice. I've had only minimal success with that method.

I've had Telix and Bluewave running under DOSBox on Win64 and Magic DOSBox on Android. However, there seems to be an issue in the virtual modem that affects uploads only, corrupting them. :(

I'm currently experimenting with qemu, to run my old RA setup on a modern OS (Linux), and I'm using tty0tty and tcpser to enable telnet capability. It's early days, and eventually, I hope to get my OS/2 and NT4 environments (it's a triple boot system) running under qemu too.

Umm, modem and phone line? ;) Of course, if you haven't got a POTS line, then you have to make do with VoIP. Choose carefully, some of the more "geek oriented" providers may give you the ability to choose codecs. You want to use G.711u or G.711a, as these are essentially the same non linear sampling that were/are used on POTS lines since digital exchanges came in. Theoretically, you should get the same bitrates as you'd get on an analog line, since the audio coding is the same.

Some ATAs may also let you decide which codecs to use or not, and you may be able to force it to require the appropriate codecs.

I'm yet to try this experiment, but it's on my wish list. I have modems and a suitable VoIP provider. Just need the time to setup the modem and ATA.:)

Yeah, you could try setting up your ATA to use only g.721u or a, if that's possible. With some consumer devices, that may not be possible.

Basicallyh the non linear sampling that digital POTS exchanges use(d) since at least the 1980s. So it's something modems are known to be able to handle well.

'mkay, i just checked here and forgot i said that. anyways, if anyone is wondering, i got it to work! For those of you who were talking about how you would love to have windows 3.1 running DOSBox, I don't remember how I did it, but I'll try to find the source.
