I have finally been able to get the chance to play with my MiSTer FPGA unit.

I have loaded the ao486 core which emulates a on 486 computer. It has a
modem emulator built in with dialing and carrier modem sounds!

I am using Telemate 4.21 right now to type this message on the MiSTer FPGA.

Cool! How is the performance on the FPGA? I've heard about them a week or so ago, and I understand that they have it dedicated to emulation. I think it was a Retro Man Cave YouTube video where he covered FPGAs as emulators.

I would love to hear any and all updates on your experience with this. This is on my list of "get one of these and play with it". Have you tried the Amiga on it yet?

Since the FPGA is designed to mimic the speed of the actual hardware it feels the same as the original.

I have the AGA core loaded and it works well as well. If you have any experience with the MiST FPGA then it's very similar. I have WorkBench 3.1 loaded with the AGA core and it works well.

I hadnt heard of these boards - I've been wanting to "bring back" a 486 to run my old BBS as it was when I shut it down, but didnt want to have a real PC consume real space and power.

They look like they'll do the trick nicely.

How does the emulator work - is it emulating serial to an ethernet port? ...δεσ*

It does emulate a serial to ethernet with basic AT commands. I also had a thought to run my old BBS software on it, but in it's current state it will
not work. I have tried multiple BBS software packages like VisionX, Emulex, LSD, Celerity and Renegade and all have an issue with detecting the carrier.

I have put in a request to get the emulation more to what it needs to be in order to bring a BBS up.
